What I liked
I loved Christopher’s use of space! Eastwood’s main stage is a big one, and, despite being a solo-ish show, Christopher filled the space and actively used so much of it. I particularly enjoyed seeing the set grow and change throughout. The writing is also so thoughtfully composed. Christopher’s stage presence and chemistry with the crowd is so natural and I felt very connected to the story.
What I didn't like
This story is so rich, and I’m excited to see if Christopher builds on it in the future. I just want more! Having the subject, in this case his dad, being physically present on stage is very compelling, and I’d love to see a version of this with either other members of his life or building on the relationship with his father further.
My overall impression
Christopher’s piece really moved me. As someone who lost their father 3 months ago, I found myself heavily reflecting on my relationship to my own dad while watching he and his father on stage. This story navigates longing, hurt, and love seamlessly in a way that is both comically delightful and genuinely heartfelt. If you’re stuck on what to see this last week of Fringe, GO SEE THIS SHOW.
