This show defied a lot of theater rules like turning your back on stage. I love that Christopher took the liberty to do so.
What I didn't like
This has more to do with me than the show itself: I wish I understood more Spanish so I can truly translate the context of what was being shared.
Also, I wish the physical props of the boxes could be more explained and utilized than just being the main backdrop of the stage.
My overall impression
I was really interested in watching it as a fellow latchkey kid. It was cathartic to watch a guy and his dad share laughs they’ve had throughout the years within 75 minutes. I was lucky enough to see this show on Father’s Day, considering the apt subject matter. Christopher and Abel’s relationship twists and turns over the course of Christopher’s life. It’s fascinating learning about your own father through other’s stories. I imagine that there’s a flurry of emotions that comes with hearing things when you’re not around. I believe the show did a great job with showing that perspective. The fish magnet scene at the end really tugs at the heartstrings.
