I feel like I said all that I need to above. Great writing, grounded yet elevated acting, a dramatic and high-stakes storyline, with characters that each have their own fully built out lives.
What I didn't like
I only wish it was more than 1 act…
My overall impression
I absolutely loved Platinum Pussy. It took me through the gamut of emotions, at one moment cracking up, and the next tearing up. Such a great exploration into feminism, sexuality and the general discomfort so many people have around it. Director Stephanie Hepner took a black box stage and made it completely immersive, with action going on 360 degrees, continuously surprising the audience along the way. Lead actors Sarish Khan and Anthony Notarile displayed such nuanced characters, fronting a strong public persona yet slowly revealing their inner consciousness…I’m giving away too much. And not only the leads, the side characters each have their own fully woven backstories that fit perfectly into the environment of a talk show. You get only a short glimpse into the world, yet feel completely immersed in it and feel like you know the characters. Sign of great writing. I loved the show. Go see it. You’ll be glad you did.
