What I liked

I was blown away by Myriam’s ability to shift between characters, especially her transformation from little girl to elderly woman. The tapestry of stories is elegantly woven together, painting a vivid picture of Palestinian life at its best and worst. Loved the collaborations with Middle Eastern vendors, teaching artists, & fundraising campaigns — this story has community impact in so many ways.

What I didn't like

The night I attended, the performance ended 77 minutes after the listed start time, which unfortunately caused me to be late to my next show. When Fringing, it’s important to be transparent & consistent about your run times!

My overall impression

What an important work of theater. Handala allows us to bear witness to each other’s humanity, our suffering, our joy, and our history. Thank you to Myriam and the network of artists that participated in the creation and execution of this captivating solo show celebrating the beautiful humans of Palestine.
