The music, the dancing, and Chris’s vulnerability.
What I didn't like
I firstly just want to recognize and honor how much WORK it took to pull this off. There’s a lot that’s good about this.
Unfortunately there’s too many ideas, too many storylines, and simply too much that Chris is trying to say in the story as a whole.
Towards the end of the show the protagonist is told that he’s all over the place and needs to find focus. My advice would be the same: find a singular message and craft the show around that message.
There are technical things to focus on, too: The audio mics simply didn’t work, the band was too loud for the actor’s to be fully understood, and at several points the singers were singing far too close to the microphones.
The show both started late and went well over the 1 hour allotted for it. In a festival like the Fringe that means that audiences who planned on seeing another show after this one had to either miss their show or go in late. That’s a disservice to the other shows that are out there.
Ultimately, I do believe there’s a powerful show in here. Chris just needs to find it…knowing his drive and his work ethic…I know he’ll figure it out.
My overall impression
Hats off to Chris Siders for pulling off something so ambitious. It really says a lot about his talent and work ethic. I have no doubt we’re seeing the first draft of something REALLY exciting.
