Krystle delivers such a powerful and emotional performance, sometimes smiling with tears streaming down her face. The juxtaposition of the tears and the smiles really sucker punches the audience in the soul!
The lighting and projection was also very well done and lent themselves well to the space theme.
What I didn't like
We need a trigger warning for anyone with a Filipino mother – Krystle’s performance really brought me back to some memories from my childhood!
My overall impression
What an out of this world way to capture the struggles of being a woman and the isolation that can come with motherhood. When you see Space Exploration, you will be hit with compassion for a character who so clearly yearns for what is beyond the expectations placed on women as homemakers and career-oriented feminists. What Krystle does so well is embody a flawed woman who is white knuckling her way through everything she believes she should be doing and asking all the right questions for both herself and her daughter. You will walk away with much to think about regarding cultural and societal pressures placed on women that we have almost become numb to in everyday life.
