Some of the jokes (or as I prefer to call them, DELICIOUSZINGERS) were INCREDIBLE!! When I understand a reference for comparison, all the better!! Fielding and I are only two years apart and also members of the same tribe, so I felt I could relate to her on a level that perhaps others in the audience could not (or did not). I laughed A LOT, don’t get me wrong, but if I’m being truthful, I really appreciated the quiet moments of vulnerability and felt that those moments really helped solidify the show.
What I didn't like
Like many jokes with stand-up comedy, some land, some don’t. That is par for the course and that definitely happened in the show. There were times, the laughs were naught or sparse and in those moments, cutting material is better than doubling down. I wish there had been more moments of quiet, reflection, introspection, etc. To me, that is what would make this feel more like a solo show and less like a stand-up routine. With such a fantastic title, I didn’t see many examples of being gaslit or addressing the gaslighting until 10 minutes before the show ended… And lastly, it seems a shame and waste to have a beautiful prop display and not use the items on it.
My overall impression
This was a rapid-fire, naughty, raunch-heavy comedy act that didn’t shy aware from all the details of a marriage gone wrong, a parental marriage that should have ended, a less-than-joyous look at motherhood, and a career still waiting to happen! And to think, I would have missed it all if I hadn’t walked across the street after a previous show to discover the Hudson telling me there were tickets available for this show, which, in my opinion, has to win BESTSOLOSHOWTITLE!! Overall, I enjoyed both performance and performer!
