As adults (now), and teens (then..when Shakes is dropped on us), we all know what it’s like to be The Friend one step away from the Prime Relationship that our friend is leaning on us/bitching about.
Be it a teenage high school breakup or an adult divorce, it’s the same Vibe.
This awesome show put the uncomfortable and messy that comes with being a true friend on the stage in a way that seriously blew my mind within context of the Shakes plays referenced.
This is a step above Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, in that they were ghosting/not involved.
These two in “We Need Better Friends” were very much involved in a modern way that audiences I think can grock even if it’s been a while since they were exposed to the Shakes plays referenced.
What I didn't like
Sometimes volume from actors. That’s it. All I can think of.
My overall impression
Wonderful human acting, and the staging was fab.
This is how Shakespeare should be taught and I Will Die On This Hill that this show needs to find a way to get into schools, where Shakes is taught All Wrong and Way Too Early for most.
Put up this show first or at bare minimum in parallel and that will (possibly) make all the difference.
