My partner is a domme in the scene so I went in already feeling somewhat informed, but I really appreciated the way Jean balanced humor and performance with an instructive lens. There’s no shock value here; this is an honest account of discovering one’s sexual identity through kink and de-stigmatizing the “taboo!” The simple, no props set up is effective, and her decision to step outside the scene of a traumatic event in order to talk about it was a really powerful, important choice reflecting a trauma-informed commitment to safety.
What I didn't like
There were a few stops n’ stutters at points, which I’m sure are nothing more than nerves & the usual frazzle of Fringe. There was also a moment or two towards the end where it felt like the dialogue-ification of Jean’s mother bordered on cumbersome, and it might have been nice for the scene to wrap up more quickly.
My overall impression
Whether you’re a seasoned kinkster or completely new to the concept, Jean Franzblau has a show for you. This 60 minute streamlined account of Jean’s personal exploration of sex, desire, & relationships offers a palatable, yet eye-opening look into BDSM and sexual empowerment.
