Solo shows are hard to pull off, but Grove did so with ease! Too often they’re just someone standing on stage, telling a story, but in I’LL BE WITHYOU IN A MINUTE Grove truly took you on a journey. The small stage in this less than 50 seat theatre became multiple distinct locations – a bedroom, massage room, an airplane cabin, a psychiatrists office, a pharmacy and so much more. That it was pulled off with minimal props and excellent lighting design is something I’ve not seen many other solo shows do so well.
It’s the story itself that is most captivating, a heart wrenching and lovingly funny show about one young woman trying to navigate the medical system and caring for her far too young Mother who’s suffering from early on set Alzheimer’s. That the show is so deeply personal for Grove and for her to pull it off with such excellence is a testament to her skill as a writer and actor.
I hope I’LL BE WITHYOU IN A MINUTE lives on beyond Fringe. I do believe most people can relate to this story, and can help us process our own grief watching those we love with due to the terrible affects of this horrid disease.
What I didn't like
Just wish there were more dates for others to see the show!
My overall impression
A brilliantly acted, written and directed one woman show!
