I was deeply moved I’ll be With You in a Minute. From the moment I sat down my heart began to open with the gentlest reminders that we all too often forget. As Grove began the journey in silence I was transported to those moments of public solitude we all have, as we try to breathe through our life’s tensions.
What I didn't like
I don’t have an improvement recommendation for this production.
My overall impression
The play gracefully threads the intersections between Grove’s daily life and the impacts her mother’s condition has across every part of her life. It sheds a light on the toll dementia takes not only on those diagnosed but on their loved ones and caregivers.
Grove’s performance is so poignant and honest you cannot help but be moved by it.
While watching this piece, and Terra Mackintosh’s skillful and thoughtful direction, you’ll be invited to reflect on the internal scars we all carry and the brave face we try to put on in the midst of the unseen burden of slowly saying goodbye to those we love most.
The continual levity throughout the production allows us to bear the burden with Grove as she vulnerably walks us through her own journey. A journey worth walking on, as we all know it in some form or another, and need the reminder that we are not alone.
