St Felix, Hollywood | 1602 N Cahuenga Blvd

The festival of Dionysia is brought to life in Hollywood through a night of theatrical performances, silent auction, dance, drinks & food.

The Festival of Dionysus, “Dionysia,” was a theatrical show-down event in 5th century Athens where playwrights would compete to entertain the community with new works. To kick off the Festival, a procession would usher the sacred statue of Dionysus from outside the city limits to the theater of Dionysus, located near the Acropolis. Wild hymns dedicated to Dionysus (AKA Dithyrambs) would be sung by choruses while giant phalluses were carried along the procession route. This would all be accompanied by generous amounts of debauchery.

An Ode to the Muses of Dionysia, A Fringe Gala is a reflection of Hollywood Fringe’s commitment to presenting new, authentic works from local playwrights that push the boundaries of the artistic community. The fusion of the processional, pomp and circumstance of old, blended with the fringe spirit, will create an event that is sure to be unlike any you’ve previously experienced.

Be sure to arrive before 8pm, when the processional will begin.
