Sam’s performance is delightful to watch — her earnest energy and unstoppable drive easily wins the audience over, so that you’re truly rooting for her to book the Dream Role in their Dream Project. The incorporation of improv & audience suggestion in the middle of a scripted show is no easy feat, but Sam pulls it off effortlessly!
What I didn't like
I wasn’t sure about the intended balance between parody number and original song, but I personally would have loved more original music. I also wish there had been more space in the piece to acknowledge or even explore Sam’s nonbinary & neurodivergent identities as they relate to her acting journey.
My overall impression
Sam Labrecque brings new life to the story of the struggling actor in a 60-minute spoof of their own tumultuous relationship with the craft & industry. This laugh-out-loud musical memoir is quirky, charming, and relatable, featuring punchy parodies of Broadway favorites and a dash of original song.
