The show strikes a perfect balance between hard-boiled thriller and comedy of errors. The characters register as larger than life but still relatable and endearing, for all their flaws – partly thanks to a stellar cast.
The central device of having audiences make choices at key junctures is charmingly handled, and nicely balances the intensity of the diegetic story. It also keeps up the sense of stakes; not only are we invested in the outcome of the story, we feel partly responsible.
What I didn't like
The show has BEEN improved, since its debut at Fringe a few years ago. As for criticisms of this version, as one of the play’s characters might say, I got nothin’.
My overall impression
A tightly-written, grimly funny murder thriller with an audience-choice element that’s genuinely engaging.
