What I liked
While I know this show was oozing with machismo and masculine energy (not to mention sublime performances by the male actors), I have to pay homage to the ladies of this piece! Frankly, if I were a dude, I would kneel before all the badass-ery that is Heather Lynn, her accent work, physical work, fight choreography, etc. And… when it comes to pure character-actor hilarity, I could not get enough of Courtney Bell! Everything about this lady, her character, her costume (pink jacket and pink heels for the win) and lines had me in stitches! I will hear her saying, “Boring. Delete.” for a long time :-)
What I didn't like
This is probably a super nit-picky note, but one that might prove beneficial… I’d lose the ending monologue delivered by Moose. The only character to break the fourth wall throughout the entire piece had been Mason, so when Moose all of sudden comes out after Julia left the stage (which to me felt like a perfect ending), it felt out of place and unnecessary. Perhaps, if there is more to be told, maybe Mason can ask the audience if they want to hear more or not. Just a thought…
My overall impression
Three Can Keep a Secret is what happens when an EXCEPTIONAL WRITER (who knows how to create a specific world with a cast of unlikeable characters) teams up with a SHARP DIRECTOR (who knows how to masterfully stage entrances, exits, stage combat, make-out sessions, etc.) and a PITCH-PERFECT CAST OF PERFORMERS (who embody their characters fully)! I was so giddy with this show, the choices involved, the unknown “what’s gonna happen now?” questions, and the comedy (oh, the comedy)! This was just a really well put together choose-your-own-adventure play with a top notch team of Fringe veterans to pull it off!
