I loved the audience participation — it was stealthy, not like a pick on you moment, but a, “Come along on this fun ride, new friend.” Woody Fu as Keanu Reeves as John Wick is a perfect clown. Somehow in the silliness we examined what must be going on existentially in Reeves and our society at large. I loved Woody’s vulnerability in the middle of the show when he point blank just told the audience why he was doing the show.
What I didn't like
The actual theatre space wasn’t the best. It was less of a stage and more of a room with chairs. At times it was hard to see what was going on due to the layout of the room. Woody did the best he could with the space, i.e. coming out into the audience and such, but the space was the space. It’d be better in a half moon horizontally organized theatre, rather than a narrow room where the chairs were all the same level.
My overall impression
What a fun and physical show. In pointing out Keanu Reeves as the “nicest guy in town” and then pointing out John Wick as arguably one of the most violent franchises of all time — Woody begged the question of why ya doin’ it Keanu in such a truly original way. I walked away thinking about the actor Keanu Reeves, who we all love, and more so than usual wanted to give that guy a hug.
