A compelling story that crackles with lust and passion, Will Manus' "Frank and Ava" chronicles the explosive relationship of two of the brightest stars of Hollywood's Golden Age. Most of the crowd in attendance when I saw the show was significantly older than I am, but it's a credit to the writing that I was able to understand, relate to and appreciate this true Hollywood story, even though I'm not as familiar with the details of Frank and Ava's life as others may be. Larry Cedar paints a vivid picture of Orwell's various Dystopias in this absolutely riveting one-man show. Simultaneously chilling and heartbreaking, "Orwellian" makes me want to go back and rediscover "Animal Farm" and "1984" all over again. ... full review

A brilliantly executed literary gut-buster that takes you on a highly irreverent romp through the Folios. The script is clever, the cast's comic timing is flawless and the show itself is perfectly produced for the Fringe. Catch it as a part of this year's Best Of. Now, I normally don't enjoy autobiographical one-person theare, but Jacquetta Szathmari has created an engaging and humorous tale of self-exploration that I was able to connect with, and I was very impressed. I'm so glad to have seen this show and to have gotten to know Jacquetta over the past few years through the Fringe Festival. She is an incredibly talented comedian and storyteller in the vein of Mark Twain and other social commentators, and her show is not to be missed. ... full review

I absolutely ADORED this show. Jeffrey Wylie has created a wonderfully engaging and endearing character in Lyla, and her show is both entertaining and weighted with a surprisingly profound emotional punch. A wonderful commentary on relationships of all kinds for all ages, this show also tugged at my heartstrings with its compassionate treatment of the sensitive and relevant topics of adult bullying and gay teen suicide. I've seen Tales of the Extraordinary before, so I know what they're capable of. This is an incredibly talented group that has developed an awesome show and podcast with a strong, loyal following. Therefore, I came in with high expectations. When it came to this particular performance though, I thought the show was solid, but it clearly felt under-rehearsed. Now granted, all of the performers work on-book, since it's a radio drama, but it seemed to me like some of them hadn't even seen the script ... full review
