Dark satire, subversive wit and 100% commitment by a game cast. It's the definition of a Fringe show!... full review

REWIND - A New 80's Pop Musical

jonathan tipton meyers · July 19, 2019 certified reviewer
Like a mouthful of exploding candy, Rewind is a bouncy, buoyant, bubbling confection of 80's "PopRocks" for your musical soul. With bright new songs that feel retro, energetic acting and direction, Sam and Geoffrey Rose's time-bending search for a hit song makes you smile for each of its 100+ minutes. ... full review

Jordan Maverick, History Teacher

jonathan tipton meyers · July 12, 2019 certified reviewer
A viciously biting satire of the horrifying prospect of weaponizing teachers, Jordan Maverick walks the tightrope of comedy on this subject. Make no mistake, however, they're not calmly walking across that rope, these outrageous performers and shaking that rope wildly and the results are disarming and entirely enjoyable. Kudos to Ryan Gowland, JJ Mayes, Sacred Fools and the entire cast. ... full review

Meet Me In Mizzery

A hilarious batch of separate characters from the mind of an immensely talented sketch performer. When not laughing, I was also teased with a sense of their underlying humanity, which I enjoyed even more. ... full review

Pit of Goblins

What did I just see? Was it a sly, satirical take on the hardships of a serial killer? Free will vs. fatalism? A salute to Dolly Parton? Yes! Twisted, dark, perverse, heartwarming, with matter of fact moments of lunacy, Mitchell Bisschop threads absurd premises and moment to moment reality together with a sense of play. The result is invigorating while simultaneously making you ask "WTF am I watching?" I can't wait to see his next show. My favorite Fringe show this year. ... full review

DROUGHT

jonathan tipton meyers · June 28, 2019 certified reviewer
Drought begins quite disarmingly with mythic riffs on the historic ocean of female oppression. Then Kate Radford opened her mouth to sing and became that ocean. Vast and deep, powerful and personal, her loops lured me in and pulled me under until I surrendered. Then she returned me to the surface and laid me breathless on the shore. I almost died. I wanna do it again. ... full review

blackboxing

jonathan tipton meyers · June 26, 2019 certified reviewer
A hilarious sendup of an all too common occurrence, the solo show as a showcase or validation. Matt Ritchey takes that and literally runs all over the theater with it, turning it into a silly, sweet existential cry for help. With the aid of the immensely able Jim Niedzialowski, they show the heart at the center of this crazy community. Just don't eat the Turkey. ... full review

No Child Left Behind.

jonathan tipton meyers · June 26, 2019 certified reviewer
At an infectious, inciteful and exciting 30 minutes, 'No Child Left Behind" is one of those Fringe shows that you might not find unless you stumble upon it. But, seek it out, because this is a thrilling theatre nugget and you need to know who Makha Mthembu is. See this.... full review

Maron Doll

jonathan tipton meyers · June 22, 2018 certified reviewer
Heartfelt and honest, Maron Doll is a story of the agony of Alzheimer's. At its core, however, it is a story of regret and forgiveness. It is that personal and universal struggle that comes through in the writing and performances. This subject matter handled delicately and sincerely by the cast. Sets and lighting were exceptional. Culturally, this is a good addition to the usual Fringe content. Congrats. ... full review
