Wow! What a show! Right from the get-go, just looking at the stage set, I was intrigue and excited. I was not prepared! Alexandra hits you in the face right from the start. She's bold and energetic and full of life. And what I love is that this is the perfect set-up for what's about to happen. Not knowing anything about this show, I was very pleasantly surprised. Right off the bat we are taken aback by Hal's honesty and vulnerability. He's not only hilarious, but in your face, brutally honest. It's a real fascinating story to watch and Hal, through the direction of Ralph, takes us on this very personal story as we watch him discover himself. Extremely well written and very honest. Right from the get go it's hard not to be captivated by Hailey's character Effie. Hailey is on fire in this show as she takes us through Effie's life, crazy lifestyle, and the bizarre characters in her life. We follow Effie as she moves through her life over the course of a couple days leading to an extremely heartfelt and brutal ending. From the moment the show began, I was smiling. Laser has brought to the Fringe one of the most unique solo show's we've seen. The seamless blend of music numbers, to life moment re-enactments, to interactions with JKR, to projections on the overhead screen are incredible. I have to begin by commenting on my intrigue upon reading the blurb that describes this show as using multimedia, as that can go several different ways. Let me say just how blown away I was by the usage of media in this show. From the moment we walked into the space, I knew this would be an interesting show. What appeared to be a Western campsite set turned out to be the inside of a jail cell. Good lord, what a show! Not having any clue as to what we were seeing, I was immediately blown away with in five minutes. The script is on point. The actors are on point. Oh My God! This show will blow you away!! I mean that. I've seen a lot of shows this year, and it is one of the best. The performance by Marguerite is off the charts! What a truly moving show. And I can only attest to the second group of shows, since there are two sets. And the ones I saw, of the three musicals, were brilliant. Just breathtaking. All three of the actors dug deep and disappeared into these incredible stories that at times I forgot they were actors and thought they were the real vets. It's so powerful. I had so much fun at this show. The work that Asta put into her character Lola is incredible. She truly disappears into this over the top struggling actress that you can't help but smile throughout the show. And as much as it is funny, this show has a lot of heart. The work between director and actor is very evident here and we the audience get taken on a wild ride that shows just how crazy things can get here in Hollywood.... full review
