BALDY

I'm stone cold and I was weeping at the end of this piece. Yokko is an amazing performer and she makes herself completely available to the audience through her characterizations, physicality, and storytelling ability. So much is happening on stage that you forget that this is a one-woman show (I'm looking at you one-woman show haters). I particularly enjoyed how she created a cast of characters to represent her inner dialogues as she tried to reconcile her relationship with her father with her pe... full review

Clowns, Goddesses & Tough Guys

James is an excellent story teller with a serious command of the stage and a kind a of optimism that it heart warming. His stories of using collecting as a way to deal with loss are unique in that it sends the young James on a mission that leads him literally to the door steps of some of tinsel towns most famous denizens. The original songs help to move the story along, but the real star are his stories. I found the show fun and engaging and I wanted to know more about what happened to that fearl... full review

Wholly Bibble!

I love improv and I see a lot of it on a regular basis but Wholly Bibble is to your everyday improv show as Citizen Cane is to Showgirls. It's that good This heathen thoroughly enjoyed it. I love that they were in period dress and "played" biblical style instruments and sound effects to move the scenes along. So funny they should be smited as some point. I hope to catch one more show before the festival is over. Luckily for you local folk, I think they perform year round.... full review

Diary of a Sociopathic Freakazoid

Take this with a grain of salt because I left Diary thinking it was a comedy. I gathered that it was not after enquiring around. Whatever. I was cracking up throughout, I may have even slapped both my knee and that of my companion who could not stop laughing. It was a small house ans we were all laughing. What can I say? I love dark humour and this humour is dark. The main character steals the show as he somehow manages to take a character who is already low to even lower depths with his substanc... full review

Leprechauns & Lies

I love one-person shows and this one delivers. Chad bursts onto the stage with his knowledge and infectious love of math (where was he when I was dozing off in math class), his command of music and rhythm, and his gift for mimicry and story telling. I was intrigued to learn of his life as a young man and the events and perception of events that lead him to what I would later find out was an existential crisis. He recreates, rather vividly, this crisis on stage and the audience responded to it as ... full review

Mission To Mate

I walked away from this three act piece thinking "wow this author really knows women". From the opening lines I was engaged and ready to go along with whatever was thrown at me and I was not disappointed. The acting was strong, the staging satisfying, and the script danced easily between comedy and drama-with some light sci-fi thrown as a bonus. The actors clearly have created a different and special chemistry in each of the pairs that they portray on stage. The third act was my favorite and if I... full review

Fringe Jam 2011: Live Band Karaoke

The best karaoke ever. Somehow they manage to make everyone-and i mean everyone-look and sound like a rock star. The front man has amazing energy (he is a show unto himself) and the band is awesome. I need to have an event just so I can hire these guys. It puts you off the other karaoke, you know the one with muzak...... full review

FreakShow Deluxe

I was thrilled after a long day to be entertained by this self proclaimed troupe of Freaks. Helmed by a masters of showmanship/ceremonies Rev Tommy Gunn and The Prof. with musical accompaniment, this is some old school sideshow schtick and not for the faint of heart. I spent one third of the show with one hand covering my eyes and the other covering my mouth because I couldn't believe what I was seeing from the front row. There's walking on glass, human blockhead action, sword swallowing, suspens... full review

The Fantasticks

There is nothing I can say about the book or the score- we know it's good; the show has been running continuously for decades. What I can comment on is the direction (great staging), which was expertly undertaken, and the performances, which were-IMHO-broadway caliber. I kind of forgot that I was in a black box theatre with precious few set pieces and just allowed myself to get swept up in the story. The singing easily filled the space and the acting exceeded it. Extra kudos to S. Khatibi who pla... full review

In this low-tech one woman show, Pam Noles, gives an honest account of geek love chronically her relationship with a fellow geek and her love of Michael Bay and Autobot Optimus Prime. She mixes it up a bit with stories of her career as a features reporter for various news outlets- including covering a 90210 shoot as an extra and documenting a gator hunt. Her fearlessness in "getign things done" is prompted by her "Prime", a man who refuses to reciprocate her amorous feelings but with whom she is ... full review
