The Last Croissant

An energetic and colorful group of performers successfully balance the absurd heights of the comedy with the more tender moments of humans just trying to belong. And the set is truly a piece of stagecraft to behold.... full review

Guilt

Two tight, provocative, and engaging pieces that deal, in their own ways, with the way guilt can consume our lives. Playwrights Benjamin Schwartz and Ryan Lisman have produced a simple, effective hour of theatre that showcases some stellar performances.... full review

One of Qui Nguyen's more emotionally resonant pieces, brought to life with energy and verve by a cast that was having so much fun it couldn't help but be infectious. ... full review

THE BULLY PROBLEM

Such a fun and energetic start to my 2019 Fringe experience. "The Bully Problem" has so much spunk and so many good intentions, it's easy to overlook its few shortcomings. ... full review

Scarlett Fever

billy ray brewton · June 08, 2019 certified reviewer
John Wuchte's "Scarlett Fever" is a masterclass in successful Fringe. It's intimate, endlessly inventive, and a non-stop trip through a fascinating and frustrating tale of the 'glory days' of the old Hollywood system. It's a must-see and a triumph. ... full review

Typically, when I think of "Shakespeare adaptations", I cringe. Productions either do too much or too little and never find that sweet spot, the middle ground. "Laertes Loves Hamlet Loves Ophelia" isn't so much an adaptation as a re-imagining of the play's three young protagonists, placing them in an apartment together as they sort out the drama surrounding the recent death of Hamlet's father and his accusations of murder most foul. ... full review

Will You Accept This Rose? The Bachelor Parody Musical

billy ray brewton · June 15, 2018 uncertified reviewer
What a delightful surprise! Most parody musicals I've seen have strayed too far from the general conceit, but not here. This is, essentially, a full season of "The Bachelor" crammed into 75-minutes of song and dance madness. It's made by people who understand the tropes of what make the show so addicting to audiences.... full review

Nickel Dickers: A Hollywood Origins Story

billy ray brewton · June 15, 2018 uncertified reviewer
NICKEL DICKERS is an over-the-top, raunchy, high-spirited send-up of Old Hollywood mentalities that lampoons much about current industry trends. The show exists somewhere between past and present, and once you latch on to that, it's easy to enjoy the ride. When the writing pops, it REALLY pops, and it's a breezy, uproarious 45-minutes, to say the least.... full review
