Barbie Smith: God's Favorite Tease

This show was an absolute riot! Easily one of the funniest shows I've watched at Fringe this year. Yamini is an excellent performer and so connected to both — the character as well as the audience. It says a lot without being didactic and hardly a minute goes by without a real laugh. Go check it out!... full review

Interviewing for the Role of Father

Xander really bled for his art and it shows. What a raw, emotional, and powerful performance that can only come from someone speaking their whole truth with all of its contradictions. The characters were so well fleshed out, the humor was perfectly placed, and the writing was incisive. Goosebumps and tears by the end of the show — I had no recourse but to stand and clap. The themes spoke to me deeply and will speak to most folks (especially those of color or immigrants) with complicated parents. ... full review

DADDY ISSUES

This was an honest and tender piece that left me feeling full and empty at the same time. Spencer is a terrific performer that takes you on a poignant journey — every word is intentional and pregnant with meaning. It's a real masterclass in how a performer can be engaging without needing to be dramatic or overly comedic, but just truthful!... full review

The Veil

This was an extremely powerful and raw performance that deserves to be not just seen but also felt. Raja takes us deep into the heart of his lived experience as a third-generation Palestinian refugee. I am so grateful that this piece of theater exists in the world at this time — please go watch it!... full review

Goodbye. Hello.

This is such a beautiful slice of life play about themes that are deeply existential — it takes very talented writing to pull that off as well as this team has! The chemistry between the actors was some of the best I’ve seen at Fringe this year. I teared up by the end — what a poignant and achingly beautiful love letter to platonic friendships. Go watch this!... full review

This was such a fun raunchy romp with real heart! Lady Satan does a beautiful job of entertaining you, educating you, and leaving you more empathetic than when you entered. The dances are fantastic and the light design elevates them further — go show this show some love!!... full review

Only Child Syndrome

As a only child myself, it's so wonderful to feel seen in this way! Jay is hilarious and very endearing. His dad was sitting next to me and that made the show all the more memorable :) Great gags throughout and a teary ending — a fun ride!... full review

The Complete (and Abridged) Works of August Wilson

This play is such a beautiful love letter to theater - kudos to Kilo, the very gifted playwright! I'm so glad to have caught a staged reading of this considering the subject matter of this play (though I will definitely be at one of the shows too). The actors were phenomenal — what incredible talents to carry something like this all the way through! They didn't miss a beat and kept the audience engaged the whole way through. The directorial choices were simple and so effective! Theater magic — yo... full review

Schizm

This was such a lovely, heart-warming, and humanizing play. The script was solid, the acting performances were lived in, and the directorial choices were laudable! A really beautiful story that presents a much-needed perspective about the disservice we do to folks by pathologizing mental health conditions. Go watch it and leave with a more tender heart!... full review

This show was an absolute riot — it had me guffawing and cackling the whole time! An amazing ensemble of actors that didn't let the pace drop for even a second. Great writing by the playwright, Sam — absurd/surreal comedy is a difficult thing to get right and he is a master of the craft. The time flew by — don't miss it!... full review
