For You

This very personal reflection of loss and renewal, performed in an intimate venue, invites the audience into a half-hour of sharing and contemplation. Comic at times, wise and vulnerable, the solo delivers in the writing, acting and direction, with lovely visuals culled from Melissa's family album. A special show that encourages immediate identification with one's own family journey.... full review

This is a unique, engaging show with a performer who radiates charm at every moment, shifting effortlessly from character to character, from comedy to poignancy, from total involvement with her imaginary world to raucous interaction with her audience. Shakespeare, Inc.

A cast that has been together now for awhile has become a well-oiled machine of non-stop punning and comic energy. Witticisms fly across the stage with abandon, as do actors, doing the bidding of the audience as it votes on the 16 different outcomes that are mathematically possible in this parody of the Bard. Even knowing they've run out of time to start the play over from the beginning, they DO! It's entertaining to watch this high-wire performing act as it races to its frantic conclusion.... full review

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Extended Edition: Part 2

robert bailey · June 13, 2024 certified reviewer
Performed with an uncanny mix of preparation and improvisation that makes you feel your wackiest friend has just leapt up from the sofa after indulging in various mood-enhancers and decided to tell you the entire plot of his favorite movie. I saw this at the end of a day when I had already seen three shows and driven back and forth across the westside, the valley and Hollywood, and all my fatigue melted away in an instant. What a fun way to complete the theatre-going day!... full review

The Dinner Party

A multi-scene one-act that gets right to the dramatic point and nails the thorny situation with incisive dialogue, humor and passion. Effectively performed and presented in a small space that the cast and director are able to dominate. The play demonstrates the wages of male wishy-washiness with clarity and a contemporary sensibility.... full review

My Mother Doesn't Know I'm Kinky

Brilliantly written and acted, and directed with style and theatrical efficiency. The play moves along briskly with humor and intensity, is always fascinating and challenges the audience's implicit hang-ups while being wildly entertaining. A total delight.... full review

Moonshine and Canned Pasta

Fully committed performances, darkly imagined apocalyptic world and blasts of crazy humor make this one-act entertaining. At times the play evokes the style of early Sam Shepard, particularly in Wayne's monologue, and conveys the same sort of non-rational energy and vision. ... full review

The Border - a Russian anti-war self-confession

robert bailey · June 13, 2024 certified reviewer
THE BORDER effectively deals with an important and timely subject: the opposition by many individuals in Russia to Putin's unprovoked attack on Ukraine. The performer commits fully to the solo narrative and the writing takes audiences to a place where the dilemma of misinformation and apathy mitigates against a humane understanding of others. A worthy project.... full review
