McAteer, who also wrote the piece, opens up a window for his audience, one they would probably rather have nailed down closed, boarded over by planks and with the curtains sewn tightly shut. Initially I gave this show a silver medal. It was a few days before I started the review, and I realized, unlike the bulk of shows I was seeing, this one stayed with me. Regrettably, I feel this show was strangled by a ligature woven from Tomoko Karina’s hyphens, the writer-director-lead actress of the play. Now whether Ms. Karina is a master of all these skills, one or none, I cannot determine and will not guess.
