Poofy du Vey in "Burden of Poof"

Unmitigated praise! Poofy's a fully realized character. She's a hilarious character. Her foibles and qualities are all endearing, even as you can see why life is tough for her. I just want to be there for her, hard as that might be. Unmitigated praise!... full review

Fat Pig

If this show were to succeed in doing what I hope it intends to do, it would need to be centered around the female character. Unfortunately, the audience is asked to follow the story of the man whom she dates. This show should be marketed as a tragedy, because every character's potential strength is slain by the end. The cast is well-rehearsed, and the show moves quickly.... full review

IN FOOD EMPIRE

By the end of the show, the audience was hugging. We were all strangers before the show began, and it was nice to have a chance to be friendly under the stern gaze of a bespectacled clown-Jamie-Oliver.... full review

NO HOMO

"Will you help me unpack boxes?" Sometimes innocuous lines carry the whole truth of a play within them. And this. When you see No Homo, listen for this line, and you'll know what I mean.... full review

That's What She Didn't Say

Bonnie has a beautiful voice. This show is worth seeing for the songs alone. Her story is also one that we know exists but don't hear out loud as often as we know it must happen. Bonnie has a non-profit with the same name as the show, and it's an appropriate name. https://www.facebook.com/thatswhatshedidntsay... full review

Such a good show. We laughed a lot and hard. Great fun. The performers are so good and so good at letting the audience in on the fun they're having on stage. Just... It's worth your hour. FUN. And clever and thoughtful and exciting and smart and lovely.... full review

The Werewolves of Hollywood Blvd: A Damnable Rock Musical

brendan weinhold · June 08, 2014 certified reviewer
The acting, dialogue, and music were all rockin'. I would have liked to see more of the female werewolf's story! Love her song. Kudos to the actor who played the big bad corporate CEO; he did wonderful work, but considering the classic gender imbalances we see in Hollywood, I would have enjoyed seeing that role gender-swapped (or the other female characters given more agency independent of the male characters). It's a very rockin' musical and thoroughly enjoyable!... full review

There Is a Happiness That Morning Is

brendan weinhold · June 06, 2014 certified reviewer
The intensity of the performers drives this prolix shows from beginning to end. High-concept poetry and philosophy play with a very real and heartfelt relationship. While the circumstances are esoteric, the relationships are exquisite extremes anybody can relate to. Engaging throughout!... full review

WMMFest

The shorts, the feature... what varied evenings of indie flicks. The comedies made me laugh. The sci-fi thriller pulled me in. Performances: AMAZING. The sweet one about a goldfish made me cry and then sigh with contentment. The drama about an amnesiac made me... mouth along. Because that was me. Playing the amnesiac. How can I not mention my own performance? I also love the western stand-off sound effects. Can't get enough of those. The feature, Way Down in Chinatown, reminded me that film is... full review
