Fringe & Artists
by ben hill
For individual artists and arts companies in all disciplines.
- Your work gets seen. The 2010 Hollywood Fringe Festival sold over 18,000 tickets. The 2011 Hollywood Fringe Festival sold over 20,000 tickets. Many shows played to sold-out houses consisting of audiences both known and unknown. The Hollywood Fringe provides an environment where arts patrons can walk the Fringe Zone, guide in hand, and plan their day around the productions that catch their interest. Artists who know how to promote their work see great returns.
- You get exposure to the press. The Hollywood Fringe Festival and its participants have been covered by LA Weekly, the LA Times, Backstage, Arts Beat LA, LA Bitter Lemons, Engine 28, Examiner, LAist, LA Stage Times, countless individual blogs, and more.
- You become part of a wide community of artists. Previous Hollywood Fringe Festivals have hosted artists from Los Angeles, New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom, and more. LA Weekly’s Steven Leigh Morris recently wrote: “What our theater lacks is a centralized watering hole, and [The Hollywood Fringe tent] was one, at least for 10 days, where the community could imagine it actually was a community: drinking, networking, discussing what they were doing and what they’d seen.”
- You discover new opportunities. Many Hollywood Fringe shows have been invited to extend their shows throughout the rest of the year by different venues in Los Angeles. Some have taken the momentum gained from the Hollywood Fringe and used it to participate in other festivals around the United States. Playwright Aaron Kozak (winner, 2010 Hollywood Fringe Best of Theatre Award) premiered his military comedy/drama “The Birthday Boys” in 2010 and has seen his play produced since then in North Hollywood, New York, and Texas. Jeremy Aluma’s company Four Clowns (winner, 2011 Hollywood Fringe Best of Theatre Award) have produced sold-out shows in the 2010 and 2011 Hollywood Fringe Festivals and took their 2010 production on a national tour through San Francisco, Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Chicago, Phoenix, and more. The Hollywood Fringe Festival is an incredible spring board for artists.
