Director

Dean Evans is a Los Angeles based professional performer, writer, and director. They were named one of the top 50 ‘players’ by New city magazine. They have performed with the Second City, iO, the Goodman, Cirque Du Soliel, and as a solo artist around the world. They are an ensemble member of the renowned performance art collective the Neo-Futurists where they wrote and performed over one hundred original pieces for the long running show too much light makes the baby go blind. In 2019 Dean made their Off Broadway directorial debut with an original ensemble piece called Mil Grus. They are also the founder of LA based ensemble Slowdance and the founder of The Nonsemble. Dean is known for their physical performance and characters including the entity who simply goes by Honeybuns. Honeybuns has enjoyed their own career performing in NYC, Chicago, Moscow, Austin TX, and Los Angeles. Dean has created over a dozen full length theatrical productions, various immersive spectacles and fluxus happenings, 3 full length circuses, and dozens of comedic characters. Dean writes and directs in The Month Long Ham Festival every third Sunday of the month at the Elysian Theater. They have appeared on NBC, Russia’s минута славы, the onion network, and various commercials and television. Dean also produces and directs orginal digital content. Follow Dean on Instagram.

 

Dean has been on faculty at Columbia College, The Celebration Barn, the Second City Training Center, Aloft circus arts, and the Actor’s Gymnasium. They have taught as a guest artist at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit, UIC, Oberlin College, the Ohio State University, Lake Forest College and more. Dean was the Artistic Director of Chicago Physical Theater from 2009 to 2016. Dean currently teaches classes in Clown, Mime, Bouffon, and Ensemble Creationin Los Angeles.
