Scout Durwood

Scout Durwood, also known as “Lady Scoutington,” is an acclaimed chanteuse and comedienne who was recently named one of The Huffington Post’s “20 Burlesque Stars to Know,” as well as Funny Not Slutty’s “10 Women Who Rock Comedy” and Stand Up Talk’s “Five Awesome Women’s Musical Comedy Acts.” She is the author of four solo shows, including the one-woman musical, “Hi, How Can I Help You?” which debuted at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and is currently woking on “Under The Water,” a show about love, mermaids, and murder. As a stand-up comic, Scout has toured nationally and is known for her unique blend of storytelling, music and whimsy, spreading laughter and joy wherever she and her ukulele may roam. Her work has been featured on The Mindy Project, Howard Stern, The Moth, Upright Citizens Brigade, The Miss America Pageant, and everywhere else in the world she can find with a stage and a mic. She recently recorded her debut EP, which she hopes to release in the spring of 2015.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Scout briefly wanted to be a veterinarian when she was younger until she found out that veterinarians have to occasionally deal with blood, which was a deal-breaker for her. Since then, she has pursued a combination of activism, comedy and performance art with the relentless tenacity of ADD eight year old who wants to do it all. She received cum laude honors from Amherst College for her first one woman show, which she presented as her thesis project for her self designed major, “Political and Social Activism Through Theatre.” The show was an exploration of gender roles in pornography and the mainstream media.

After college, she moved to New York City, was quickly swept up by all things below 14th St., and started living life full time as her irreverent alter ego, Lady Scoutington. After years of working as a cabaret singer in burlesque and sideshow, Scout made the move to Los Angeles to pursue a career in mainstream comedy. Scout and Lady Scoutington are currently working on a pilot together, exploring the notion of going through life as two very different people with similar dreams, but entirely different notions of how to get there. She currently resides in Los Angeles with her dog, Omelette Faye Poodle Guacamole Buttmouth Durwood and is the co-hosts “Comedy Music Circus” at El Cid.
