Darlene: Four Feet From Crazy

abby schachner · June 28, 2014 uncertified reviewer
what a sweet, sincere character. it was so refreshing to see a man, portraying a woman, and not being just one joke. darlene is sweet, has a lot to say, and the comedy is smart... different. i was taken by her. I'm definitely glad i showed up. slow, smart comedy... charming, delightful, and fun. great details in the text, too. next time, darlene gets a set... and props... or put her on a kid's show and let's just listen to her lessons. regardless, i'd like to see Darlene in some more situa... full review

The Werewolves of Hollywood Blvd: A Damnable Rock Musical

when I saw this show, I wasn't sure how to write a review, but I am an Orgasmico fan. I saw excorcistic twice last year, and got really into the movie after. I had a great time at werewolves, and so did my fellah friend, and this show will only get tighter and grow. Despite the sound issues when I saw it or the occasional clunks, I don't care. Next go around, I'll be in the audience bopping my head and howling at the moon after. (or more likely, I'll singing one of the songs!) (then howling)... full review

The Wake

talk about commitment... acting... writing... the whole shebang! this show was great! everything I've seen has been great, but this show... and this ben, fellah, exceptional. The rhythms and the heightening... the twists... I loved it. Now I just want to see his other show. The Real Deal.... full review

Jesus H: A Solo Play for the Zealot in all of Us

Mariah is a natural beauty, talented, smart, funny, and we take this ride with her across the country that strikes a chord. she doesn't need bells and whistles, doesn't need wigs, she just transforms and takes us on a ride through her experience with religion prompted by her seat-mate. It was deep, funny, touching... she's great with characters, great with worlds... and I love in the end how much it meant when she went to jerusalem. her beautiful family. her husband. the women on the plane. ... full review

And She Bakes, LIVE.

loved it! loved Daliya! A natural performer! wonderful metaphors, funny as hell. the word delightful really does apply to her and this show, but like someone else said, there was something deeper, and I loved that, too. And those peanut butter treats... god! I gotta make the recipe! Not sure if she's always saddled up with Jesus H, but it was a lovely evening all around! I want more funny/deep cooking shows with Daliya!... full review

Jackass: A Prom Story

i went to this show, because a friend was going... I didn't know these girls... but I'm so happy I went. These two shows work wonderfully together, and the performers, julia and amy, were a joy to watch. I dunno. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but I'm finding the voices and experiences of the younger generation fascinating to watch, experience and learn from. Even as teenagers, to me, they had good parents and a head on their shoulders (which, unlike me, is refreshing). In less than a... full review

Coming To Zimbabwe

abby schachner · June 23, 2014 uncertified reviewer
James told this incredibly rich, beautiful story, with such ease and grace... I'm wondering if James really works for the airlines, because honestly, you're going to want to get a ticket and get down to Zimbabwe after seeing this show. (no joke). A great story, a main character you wanna root for, and a tribute to a country that most of us know nothing about... but will fall in love with... just like James. Don't let the distance on Western Ave. fool you. This theatre is adorable, close, cool... full review

Shame Based Fun

i loved this show. i wasn't sure what to expect, but i dragged two friends to it, and honestly, we all had a blast. sasha and misha were so funny and playful and smart... and different. quite frankly, it's a show i've been thinking about all day long (and I saw the show over 24 hours ago). I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting older (which I am) but seeing the younger generation tackle issues and express themselves (sasha with the help of foil, co-conspirator, and brother, misha) is fascin... full review

Fancy: Secrets from my Bootydoir

you don't have to be a chris farah fan to enjoy Fancy, but you will become one. Fancy is one of those characters that has a lifetime ahead of her, and I can't wait to see where she goes! If I were Fancy's manager, she'd be performing at bar mitzvahs, weddings, cruise ships, birthdays, and by all means, the hottest drag clubs in the country und world! ... full review
