Mary Tomei (she/her)
Director
Mary Tomei (she/her) is a New York–based theater director focused on new work development and exploring feminist and queer themes through earnestly human stories. Recent credits include a concert version of the new folk-rock musical The Angel Makers at the 52nd Street Project, the 2nd annual Night of New Work at Green Room 42, and Halfway There by Norm Foster for The Snarks Ltd. Her full production of The Angel Makers premiered last summer at SheNYC Arts’ Summer Theater Festival, winning Best Production of a Musical, Best Score, and Best Leading Actor. Other credits include Itchin’ for an Itch: The Mosquitical (Best Production Short, New York Theater Festival), assisting on King of Pangaea at NAMT’s 34th Annual Festival, and supporting the development of STARSTRUCK, a new musical by Beth Malone, Emily Saliers (Indigo Girls), and Mary Ann Stratton, with Out of the Box Theatrics. Mary holds a B.A. in Theater from Northwestern University and is excited to make her LA directing debut with Slap Ass Friday, a show that deeply resonates with her teenage self.
