CJ Hunt
CJ Hunt is an actor and improviser living in New Orleans. Today, he can be found performing improv and sketch comedy with the group Stupid Time Machine and teaching improv as a founding member of The New Movement, a professional improv theater and training center with locations in Austin and New Orleans.
Teaching Experience
CJ has taught improv to people of all ages. In addition to his experience at T.N.M, CJ has coached improvisers at Brown University (RI) and led improv workshops for the brilliant middle-school students of Breakthrough Collaborative (Providence, RI), Arthur Ashe Charter School and Green Charter School (New Orleans, LA). In 2007, he came to New Orleans as an English teacher with the Teach for America Program. CJ’s experience as a school teacher greatly informs his teaching of improv, infusing each class with a level of extreme play and focused rigor typically reserved for getting 6th graders to fall in love reading. He recognizes that improv has the power to transform how people relate to one another, and he plans to work to help establish improv teams and classes throughout the public schools of New Orleans.
Training Experience
CJ has studied at Improv Olympic in Chicago, and graduated from the Comedy Conservatory in New Orleans. He has been trained – both as a performer and as an improv teacher – by Chris Trew and Tami Nelson of the New Movement Theater (Austin). Additionally, he has taken classes with instructors from Second City (Chicago), the Cupid Players (Chicago), and The Improv Trick Training Center (St. Louis).
About
CJ has performed with a number of improv groups including Dr Awkward, ComedySportz New Orleans, and the Improvised Shakespeare Company O’ Vengeance. He spent two years as a writer and puppeteer for the television show Thayer Street, and co-wrote the sketch revue “Begging for Change” which premiered at the 2009 New Orleans Comedy Arts Festival. As a member of Stupid Time Machine, he has written and performed in a number of sketch revues, including “Love in the Time of Swine Flu” and “All Beepers Go to Heaven.” These shows have enabled the group to tour the country and have earned them invitations to the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival and the 2010 Chicago Sketch Fest. Most recently CJ played a backroom card dealer for an episode of truTV’s reenactment series All Worked Up. He is certain that Hollywood will be knocking down his door as soon as they witness the pure unbridled fire and commitment with which CJ dealt those cards.
