Gabrielle Jackson

Gabrielle Jackson is an artist and activist who melds her love of Utopian Afrofuturism, genealogy, and African spiritual modalities into poetry, theater, and literature that examine all aspects of Black life. Gabrielle’s work refocuses Black history, constructs new visions of a Black future, and creates equitable artistic expression for all.
Gabrielle was part of the inaugural cohort of Justice For My Sister’s BIPOC Sci-Fi Screenwriting lab, where she conceptualized her first sci-fi TV series concept. Since then, she’s co-facilitated Teen BIPOC Sci-Fi Screenwriting workshops for JFMS and become the org’s Programs Manager. She brought her journey full circle by coordinating the lab’s second iteration.
Gabrielle teaches Sci-Fi and Afrofuturist devised theater to elementary school youth through All The Arts For All The Kids and co-facilitates Filmmaking 101 classes for underrepresented youth through JFMS’ Afterschool Arts Program.
In 2020, Gabby founded the Joy-Jackson Initiative, a non-profit organization creating actionable tools to build systemic equity in the arts. Gabrielle has facilitated essential community conversations and events, such as the #LeavingLASA community conversation, and developed The Joy-Jackson Assessment For Systemic Equity, a groundbreaking diagnostic tool that measures theaters’ ability to support BIPOC creatives and professionals in their organizations. She’s given talks about equity and transformation at prestigious colleges, universities, and theater organizations.
