Charise Sowells grew up performing everything from hymnals to The Jungle Book beginning at age 4. In high school she made it into the prestigious Orange County High School of the Arts for Musical Theater, a year when over 300 hundred kids auditioned and only 30 were admitted. Within the school’s Experimental Theater Group, Charise discovered her knack for dramatic writing after writing and performing a hit monologue in the controversial collaborative production, This Is Not A Rave. She also began songwriting at OCHSA after suggesting the new creative writing program have a songwriting class. She performed original music and spoken word pieces both onstage and in the studio with Drum and Bass DJs and producers in LA.
Once she moved to NY to pursue her undergraduate studies she began performing with all sorts of groups live: from hip hop to rock to jazz, discovering her own soulful and bluesy sound. Having graduated from Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Playwriting from the Dramatic Writing Program, Charise received an award for her work throughout the years as well as an award for her thesis play, (562). She spent three years freelancing in production, traveling and pursuing her creative projects as a writer and singer in NYC. She has recently relocated to Los Angeles, CA.
