Carleton knows that by telling her own story, audience members will hear their own story in her words. This was certainly true for me as I followed her story of growing up with OCD which led her to be a social outcast in school. But it is the journey she shares with us that becomes deeply moving and hilarious at the same time as we follow her through the struggles and triumphs of treatment which lead her to real emotional change and the ability to consider others her "friends." She is a master...

In a lime green wig piled sky-high on top of her head, wearing a bright orange dress and tons of make-up, you know from the very start this skinny-legged drag queen is about to take you for the ride of your life! Accompanied by a rocking 4 piece band led by a conductor who later plays important roles in the show, this was as entertaining and socially-relevant a show as any I saw in Fringe this year. It's a BE WHO YOU ARE message that is delivered LOUD AND PROUD for all to see and hear!...

Daniel Sugimoto's latest play, WHITE PEOPLE DRINKING, is all about those honest conversations during a dinner party with 3 very different couples, each of whom wind up speaking what is really on their minds after the free-flowing drinks loosen their tongues. All the topical taboo scenarios we fear on a silver platter are brought to light in fits of wit and whimsy, often so fast that you may feel your head is spinning trying to catch all the sarcasm as it flies past your ears. Imagine sitting dow...

This ambitious musical salute to the creative "beat" generation born in the NYC Village during the 1950s centers on showcasing the women whose poetry and books played an important role in the movement towards self-expression. With none of the performers even alive in the 50s, somehow each manager to bring the spirit of the Beat poets to life, most recognizable being Allen Ginsburg and Jack Kerouac. In fact, this was the first time I ever heard about the contributions of the most important women i...

Costumer extraordinaire Michael Mullen challenged himself, after much pushing from many of his Facebook friends, to create a solo show about his life for this year's Fringe. And thankfully, he agreed. But it's not so much about costumes as it is about his life, living in Hollywood and dealing with his many food cravings while walking the local streets or shopping at the Rock and Roll Ralphs on Sunset Blvd. Ever on his mind is his favorite food craving of all, mac and cheese, so much so that wh...

What an amazing production, created , produced and starring two remarkable actors recently moved to L..A. from NYC. Their loss is our gain and these two were an incredible duo in this tantalizing adaptation of the classic horror story.Burt Grinstead is am amazing Jekyll and Hyde, while Anna Stromberg dazzles as all the other characters in the play, both men and women. Designed in a black box with all black basic costumes and set pieces, the only color in the entire show appears as the backdrop ...

Jonathan Tipton Meyers is a native New Yorker, an actor, writer and filmmaker. In his solo show, he recounts how he decide to change his life by buying a car and learning to drive as he went cross country to Los Angeles to follow his dreams of breaking in to the L.A. move industry. When it didn't pan out as he hoped, Jonathan decided to become an Uber driver even though he did not know the streets of L.A. nor which areas were not the best in which to drive. As he went from story to story of tho...
