Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All For You

shari barrett · June 14, 2022 certified reviewer
When we are welcomed into the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Sorrow, the good Sister Mary Ignatius proceeds to lecture us on the basic tenants of her Catholic faith. To say she is a bit twisted is an understatement. Michael Mullen handles the role with great skill and enthusiasm, drawing you into the lessons being presented - even if you don't agree with them. But when the "pageant" begins, be ready for a strange turn of events.... full review

The music of Patti Smith was a highlight of this show, with the actors all well accomplished in belting with attitude. Loved the Greek chorus masks! Great choreography and a fun way to learn a bit about Greek mythology.... full review

Annie Sprinkle Project

I walked in knowing nothing about Annie Sprinkle and left wanting to know more thanks to Sophia's entertaining and thought-provoking performance, especially the way she morphed into so many different characters from Annie's life as well as Annie herself. Sophia knew just how far to take her actions, allowing Annie's personality to shine through without going to far with her graphic, physical representations.... full review

Breed or Bust

Given the right-to-life movement in the news, Joyful's play about her personal journey through several unwanted pregnancies was both heartbreaking and deeply heartfelt, taking a serious subject and offering an often humorous look at what women go through when it comes to breeding decisions. It's a difficult subject, and Joyful made it an easy one to watch. ... full review

QUEEN OF FISHTOWN

Katierose Enriquez walks into the theater and transforms the space into her front stoop in Fishtown, a area of Philadelphia she has called home her entire life. With accent firmly in place and a potty mouth to match her strong personality, Katierose uses humor to the fullest to present "Kathleen" whose argumentative nature is about to get the best of her. Ultimately the show is about how change is the only real constant in life and if you want to survive, it's best to put your anger and expectat... full review

John Wuchte and his Kick Boom Theater ensemble take musical theater and dance to a new level, offering a combination of incredibly intricate and perfectly executed movement choreography performed by 7 brilliantly talented performers, all set to soul tingling music performed by four musicians. It's such an inventive way to look at a day in the life of neighboring housewives in 1952, living a train ride away from NYC - and how that train ride affects their husbands on their way to and from work wit... full review

Asexuality! The Solo Musical

shari barrett · June 10, 2022 certified reviewer
Such a well written and performed show in which Rebecca (born Robert) takes us along her journey to becoming her true self, told with music and skits coordinated with pre-recorded characters carrying on dialogues and singing clever original songs together. Her truthful recounting of emotional recollections opened my eyes to the hidden struggles of trans people and how important it is to let people be exactly who they are and accept them as equals.... full review
