THE DOMA AWARD FOR BEST NEW MUSICAL

Sponsored by DOMA Theatre Company

Description

The award winning DOMA Theatre Company is proud to sponsor The Hollywood Fringe Festival Award for Best New Musical. The award is designed to promote and foster the growth and development of new musicals in the Los Angeles area. DOMA wishes to create an avenue where the winning musical will have the opportunity to further develop the piece and in addition, be able to endure a continued run in the Los Angeles area.

Qualifications

To qualify for award consideration, the production must be fully registered for the 2014 Hollywood Fringe Festival and be listed on the Fringe website under the musical category. In addition, the production must be a newly created musical. Revival productions will not be eligible for awards consideration.

As DOMA is producing DORIAN’S DESCENT for this year’s Hollywood Fringe festival, it is important to note that DORIAN’S DESCENT will automatically be disqualified from the running.

Methodology

The show will be adjudicated by three active members from DOMA Theatre Company who will attend all eligible musical productions and score the following categories on a scale of 1 to 5 (5 being the highest).

Music Composition
Book
Direction
Choreography
Musical Direction
Acting (judged as an ensemble)
Scenic Design
Costume Design
Prop Design
Sound Design
Lighting Design

The Design categories are not necessarily scored based on how elaborate a design is but scored based on creative use of said design elements.*

The overall production score will be devised by computing the average from each individual category. The musical with the highest overall total score will win the award.

Reward

The winning musical production will be presented with a certificate by DOMA Theatre Company as well as a $1000 check to be used toward further development of the winning musical production.
