Description
H.I.T. Comedy Theater is a Black-owned comedy and performance space focused on creating inclusive, community-centered opportunities for artists and audiences alike. Through classes, live shows, workshops, and special events, H.I.T. works to make comedy and performance more accessible while supporting emerging voices and fostering creative collaboration.
This award was created to honor the people who help make that mission possible — artists, collaborators, and community members who lead with creativity, generosity, and a commitment to uplifting others. It exists to celebrate not just talent, but the spirit of community that continues to shape H.I.T.
Preference will be given to shows from diverse backgrounds, but not having this will not disqualify you.
Qualifications
Show must be comedic in nature, and does not have to be specifically from the Comedy category. Preference will be given to shows from diverse backgrounds, but not having this will not disqualify you.

Methodology
A selection committee made up of H.I.T. Comedy Theater staff and experienced performers/producers will review eligible productions and determine the recipient of the award. Shows will be evaluated using a rubric that considers overall performance quality, production value, originality, audience engagement, and marketability. Most importantly, the committee will consider the core element at the heart of the award: how genuinely funny and entertaining the show is for an audience.
Reward
The recipient of this award will receive a physical trophy presented at the ceremony, along with several opportunities designed to help elevate their production beyond the festival.
The award includes:
→ A complimentary coaching session focused on marketing and audience growth strategies
→ An encore performance of the winning show at H.I.T. Comedy Theater
→ Complimentary class enrollment for select members of the production team from our current course offerings
Our goal is not only to celebrate outstanding work, but to help artists continue developing and expanding their creative projects beyond the festival experience.
