Description
We are a Los Angeles-based production company focused on developing performance-driven theatre, film, and cross-platform storytelling, with a particular emphasis on supporting international and Asian voices. Our work centers on projects that combine strong artistic vision with long-term potential for development beyond their initial presentation.
The M&M Arts Development Award was created as an extension of our commitment to identifying and supporting artists whose work can continue to grow after the festival. As producers, we are interested not only in presenting work, but in helping shape its next stage — whether through further development, future staging, or cross-platform opportunities.
We are particularly drawn to projects that demonstrate strong physicality in performance, a clear directorial voice, and the ability to communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries. This award reflects our interest in building ongoing collaborations and supporting work that resonates with diverse and international audiences.
Qualifications
Projects led by or meaningfully representing Asian or Asian diasporic artists are strongly encouraged to apply.
Eligible works should demonstrate:
- A clear artistic voice and strong directorial perspective
- Engagement with cross-cultural or international experiences
- Strong physicality and presence in performance
- Potential for further development beyond the festival
We also welcome projects from artists of all backgrounds whose work aligns with these values and contributes to diverse and globally resonant storytelling.
Methodology
The award recipient will be selected by a small committee of theatre and film professionals, including the producer from M&M Arts and external collaborators from the Los Angeles creative community and nation wide .
Committee members will attend a curated selection of shows and evaluate them based on the following criteria:
- Strength of artistic and directorial vision
- Physicality and presence in performance
- Clarity of staging and use of space
- Ability to communicate across cultural and linguistic boundaries
- Potential for further development beyond the festival
The final selection will be made through a discussion-based process, incorporating both individual evaluations and collective dialogue to identify the project with the strongest overall alignment with the award’s mission.
Reward
The award recipient will receive:
- A formal award certificate presented at the Hollywood Fringe Awards Ceremony
- A one-on-one development meeting with M&M Arts and Productions to discuss next steps for the project
- Professional feedback on the work, including potential pathways for further development (extended run, touring, or screen adaptation)
- Consideration for future collaboration and potential inclusion in upcoming M&M Arts projects or productions
The award is intended to support the continued life of the project beyond the festival, through conversation, development, and potential future opportunities.
