VETERANS FOR VIRGINS AWARD

Sponsored by Lost Moon Radio & Big Guns Big Tobacco

Description

The Veterans for Virgins Award is presented by veteran Hollywood Fringe Festival producers to an outstanding first time Hollywood Fringe Festival producer to recognize her effort in mounting a promising Hollywood Fringe production. The spirit of this award is to recognize those brave souls who have decided to pop their production cherry at the Hollywood Fringe and intend to mount another production in the following Festival. The ideal candidate is a first-time producer mounting new work with a cast and crew as new to the game as she is. We want to encourage anyone considering putting together a show to do so here and now and to highlight those who are willing to take the risk. Fringe isn’t just about superlatives; it’s also about giving new producers a chance to take a chance on theatre.

Qualifications

• Potential candidates must be first-time producers in the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
• Neither the producer(s) nor the production may have received any awards from any theatre or festival organization.
• The production must be a new production meaning that is has not been seen before in the format of a full show. Productions that have been “work-shopped,” shown as work-in-progress or presented as a staged reading are eligible. Productions presented in the Hollywood Fringe Festival as workshop, works-in-progress, or staged readings are also eligible.
• No more than 50% of the cast and crew may have participated in past Hollywood Fringe Festivals.
• Potential candidates must express interest in producing in the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival.

Methodology

The VVA committee which consists of affiliates of Lost Moon Radio, Big Guns Big Tobacco, and Theatre Unleashed will evaluate candidates on a rubric that assesses the quality of the selection of the material, performance, PR and advertising efforts, the “fringiness” of the work.

Reward

The winner will receive support in the form of production advice for HFF 15 throughout the year from principals of the sponsoring organizations as well as an invitation to show at the 2015 Festival of the Offensive at a discounted performance rate.
