What I liked
The acting in this production was simply mesmerizing. Each performer brought their character to life with such depth and realism that I found myself completely engrossed in the narrative. The staging, too, was a standout feature. The seamless set changes were almost like a well-rehearsed dance, adding a fluid, dynamic quality to the entire experience. It’s evident that Cybelle Kaehler’s background from UC Irvine, with her extensive work in both drama and film, has honed her directorial skills to create such a captivating staging.
What I didn't like
While the storytelling was engaging, I felt a desire for more detailed insights into the characters’ backgrounds and relationships. Some aspects seemed intentionally ambiguous, which certainly added to the intrigue, but as someone who quickly became invested in these characters, a little more clarity or a hint of their past interactions would have been enlightening. This additional layer could elevate the narrative even further.
My overall impression
This was a thought-provoking and beautifully presented play that delved into themes of identity, resilience, and the complex nature of human connections. The direction by Cybelle Kaehler, with her impressive track record including her recent work in Irvine, really shone through in this production. It’s a story that resonates on multiple levels, reminding us of the power of theater to reflect and explore the human condition.
