What I liked
I loved the incredible singing talents, loved the gorgeous and creative costumes and cast faces all decorated with shining jewels, loved the creative choreography and dance moves which made the most of a black and white checker board stage right next to the seats. The initiate size of the Jaxx Theatre allow the audience to have eye contact with the cast members and provided a sublime, immersive and unforgettable theatre experience. If the run had been longer and not sold out, I probably would have loved to return for a third viewing and bring friends.
What I didn't like
I really could not think of any improvement to this show. Given the intimate size of the Jaxx theatre, Chess the Musical was perfection for me. I can’t wait to see the future shows at Jaxx, and what creative director Jeremy Lucas come up with in coming months. I am a new audience member attending Jaxx the first time, so happy I found this gem.
My overall impression
I love this amazing Chess Musical so much, I bought tickets to see it twice. I attend many live musicals year round, including ones at the larger theatres at Pantages and Ahmanson. This production of Chess the Musical, by Creative director Jeremy Lucas at Jax Theatricsls, is my favorite show among all the live theatre shows I have seen in 2024. The level of talent is insanely good. 5 Star (I would have given 6 if that was an option).
