From the very first moment — great music cues — Joni Mitchell to open with, way to set the mood of emotional complexity. Very smart to have the lead character be a veteran actress guaranteeing a solid structure inside of which the younger actress could feel comfortable and push. Lots of good moments of course culminating with the holy water scene. A great arc to the story that took us on an albeit short but meaningful journey. The younger actress is really a role model for how to make a showcase piece that is short, efficient, and enjoyable (instead of torture like too many showcases I’ve attended over the years, ugh). Really impressive.
What I didn't like
the storyline could have dug a little bit deeper from the outset to give us a clearer feel of the depth of importance of the funeral and why it matters that the mother and daughter connect, but for 45 minutes it was really good.
My overall impression
Excellent. Very well written, perfectly cast, wonderfully performed.
