In this dark-comedy drama, a middle-aged woman, who feels she’s failed at her life dreams, arranges a one-night stand before carrying out her final exit plan, only to discover the young gigolo she’s hired shares the same disillusionments as she does.
Unable to achieve the life goals she made for herself in the 1990s when she was a tween, Laura, now an adult, feels like a failure. Struggling with loneliness and depression, Laura has made several failed suicide attempts over the years unbeknownst to her younger sister who’s married with children and dealing with her own issues. Laura is determined to follow through with her final exit plan this time and let go of the past once and for all, including a vision board she’s held on to since middle school. Except she can’t because she doesn’t want to go out alone. To keep her company, Laura musters up the courage to hire an unsuspecting young gigolo named Ryan who—over the course of the night— reveals to her his dreams of being a country-western singer. Through awkward interactions and stark vulnerabilities, Dream Big explores the wide-open dreams and vision board quests we so earnestly pursue in our lives when still full of youthful imaginings and the painfully profound realities that begin to set in as we get older.
