I really enjoyed the energy of the show and the comedy timing that most of the actors had with the material. It’s a black box theatre show, if you’re in the industry you know that it’s not a full big budget production, and THAT’s OKAY! it’s about the story and material coming together and I think this team did an awesome job telling the story. We were laughing our assess off at the ridiculousness of these characters, knowing full well these are people we all have met at least once while living and working in Hollywood.
What I didn't like
Timing and delivery of lines by certain actors would have helped the pace of the show. For example, each of the actresses really brought it and their characters were very unique and executed well! However, the gentleman actor seemed to have improv background from his bio, which is awesome to have but it’s not theatre training and it showed. If you’re in a theatre production, improv is a great skill to have but it is NOT the same thing as a rehearsed show and it’s disrespectful to your fellow castmates and director when you don’t take that seriously. ie his lack of diction, lack of projection to be heard better (it was really hard to hear him and his lines and we were in the back row in a TINY black box theatre, there’s no reason for that unless he’s just not trained in theatre
– which is fine, if you’re willing to take constructive criticism and grow as an artist from those facts). Fringe is a place to learn with professionals as well so it’s great to see the different experiences of professional actors to novices on stage, however this fact took us out of the story at times because it was hard to follow him when it was about his character and interacting with the other actors. His back was turned to the audience at different points as well, not sure if that was a directors choice or his lack of theatre knowledge, he literally showed the audience how green he is. Again, this isn’t to call him out or put anyone down, it’s to acknowledge what needs to be worked on further IF someone wants to take theatre and professionalism seriously, and to showcase how important theatre training and rehearsals are when you want to do professional work at all. Otherwise, it shows by their own willful ignorance. As someone who has worked in shows in Fringe in the past and is a professional in this industry, it’s frustrating as an audience member to see on a stage full of thespians the actors who are doing their homework for the show and then seeing one who has not due to their own choices. It shows. You can tell who has done their homework and who has not.
Thank you for everyone’s time though and Art! Keep creating and sharing with the community!
We really enjoyed the show overall and hope it can come back for more!
My overall impression
Overall, my husband and I absolutely loved the show! It was entertaining, hilarious and true to the nature of the show business we all work in. And you have to laugh at the BS in this industry! It was a great original piece that could easily be translated into a short mockumentary film or sitcom to pitch in the future.
