I was captivated from start to finish by Jana’s performance. She took my soul on a journey where I felt connected to every single character in the story. The storytelling through movement and expression is riveting… I can’t wait to see how the process evolves. WELL DONE! ... full review

Jana shared pieces of her personal history, her family history, and the world’s history in a way that is incredibly personal. So many details captured my mind and emotions—the idea of her family always having bags packed for trips seven days in advance, to “be ready”; the bone-crushing words her grandmother said to her, after which the play is named; seeing her grandparent’s newspaper wedding announcement during a school trip to a Holocaust museum. These things are real, so vulnerable, so affecting. I learned so much about Jana’s personal history, and also the larger story of how the Holocaust reverberated through families for generations. On a personal level, I connected with the theme of family simultaneously being your whole support syste... full review

What Jana Krumholtz has managed to accomplish in this short, but remarkable play, shows how our struggle to become ourselves is inextricably linked with our family, our tribe, our history and collective trauma. Jana was not alive to endure the sufferings of the Jewish holocaust, but the generational echoes of that horror have permeated her young life. Her play tackles an age old question: what is a person to do when the family you adore is at odds with your soul’s desire. For Jana, that’s to be a professional dancer. This play is a moving and compassionate journey of self discovery, finding authentic power and exorcising tribal and family demons. Humor, heart, wisdom, and dance flow through this life-giving work. I am astounded that this is ... full review

Outstanding. It’s movement, it’s acting, it’s art. It’s very personal… it’s a quiet play - I had to lean in and really listen & be available & was very very moved. It was smart & well constructed as a play - and the music was well crafted as well.... full review

This story makes us (the viewer) reassess what the word “History” means. For some, history is nothing more than a collection of events removed from our own time. That’s true. But that’s also a dangerous notion as well, becomes it distances us on a personal level. History does have a tendency to repeat itself and in this story Jana reminds us through her own journey that the ripples through time shape who we are today. They never go away and it’s important that the stories of old and new are told side by side. This allows for empathy and the strong desire to make sure that history does not repeat itself. The nonlinear approach of this story is refreshing and exuberant. There’s a lot of layers to unpack here. Many ideas, many themes. Thi... full review

To be vulnerable within yourself or to a person close to you is one thing—to be vulnerable in front of a crowd is another. I entered this performance knowing very little about Jana’s history, and I left feeling like I had known her for years. Her ability to share her story through words, movement, sound, moments of relatability, and moments of learning created a performance that felt dynamic and fully alive. Her story is incredibly special and unique on its own, but it was through her story-telling that I was fully captivated. I cannot wait to see how this piece evolves and grows over time! Congratulations Jana on an incredible creation!... full review
