What I liked

To tell an elegant riveting story with such grace, compassion and wisdom is a rarity these days. Such a gift.

What I didn't like

I look forward to seeing how it develops but I hope it never loses the essence I witnessed.

My overall impression

What Jana Krumholtz has managed to accomplish in this short, but remarkable play, shows how our struggle to become ourselves is inextricably linked with our family, our tribe, our history and collective trauma. Jana was not alive to endure the sufferings of the Jewish holocaust, but the generational echoes of that horror have permeated her young life. Her play tackles an age old question: what is a person to do when the family you adore is at odds with your soul’s desire. For Jana, that’s to be a professional dancer. This play is a moving and compassionate journey of self discovery, finding authentic power and exorcising tribal and family demons. Humor, heart, wisdom, and dance flow through this life-giving work. I am astounded that this is her first play. I hope there are many to come.
