What I liked
Hunt’s performance and impressive storytelling floored me. Hunt took several opportunities to remind his audience that his piece was a “work-in-progress,” but I assure you, he never had to. I was charmed by his charisma, moved by his vulnerability, and inspired by the way in which he weaved through challenging periods in his life and a flawed parental relationship with such levity, love, and forgiveness. I see so much potential here and can’t wait to see how much further this piece will go once fully polished. I sought out this piece because I am a fan of Hunt’s past stage appearances and love a good one-person show; this one did not disappoint. I was only disappointed when I learned it was soon ending because I could have sat and listened for much longer. I must also add that an important device is introduced at the top of the show, one that would unfold later on; even though I witnessed the set-up of said device, I could not have imagined it would be so effective when the time came for it to unfold. What I thought would be distracting was actually quite moving and perfectly executed!
What I didn't like
Be confident that your audience is with you! We understand that this piece is a work in progress, and while I was charmed each time you broke to remind us of this, I assure you, you never had to; we were intently along from the moment you began!
My overall impression
A funny, moving, and deeply personal piece that gives great insight into a flawed mother-son relationship, with The Beatles playing a subliminal but pivotal role in the journey.
