What I liked
The concept felt genuinely fresh, using the five stages of grief as a structure to explore an influencer breakup gave the show both comedic timing and real emotional weight. The two “followers” weighing in on Eve’s grieving process was a clever device that kept the pacing sharp and added humor without undercutting the heartfelt moments.
What I didn't like
A few transitions between the comedic and more vulnerable beats felt slightly rushed, a touch more breathing room in those emotional shifts would have let the heavier moments land even harder.
My overall impression
“Under the Influence” is a sharp, timely look at how social media reshapes even our most personal moments, like grief and heartbreak. It captures something a lot of us recognize but rarely see put into words: the strange performance of being “online” even when we’re falling apart. Working in social media marketing services myself, I found the show’s take on influencer culture especially relatable, it nails the tension between curated online personas and the messier reality underneath. A smart, funny, and surprisingly moving piece of theatre.
