What I liked
The audience is very much ‘in’ on all the humor and the historical stories aren’t the usual “we’re people dumb in the past, we’re so much more enlightened now,” but “yes, we’ve always been here and I can’t help but find my trans forebearers relatable and awesome in their own way.”
What I didn't like
IDK… I think my least favorite piece was the Scotland one? Just felt like it dragged a little since we obviously knew who it was you ‘met’ there. Though I did laugh at the punchline about “I didn’t know which way I would go.”
Also… Volume. I don’t know why the volume was an issue, but I had to have mine pushed all the way up and still missed a few lines.
My overall impression
I really enjoyed this show! I was funny, sincere, and interesting. (Which, honestly, I was not expecting when I heard “One-Man-Musical”) I didn’t particularly expect either the autobiography or the history to keep me riveted, but the horrible self-consciousness of I Am A Woman and the toe-tapping triumph of the final number were both a delight.
