This was truly an incredible show. Dan’s command of comedic timing was perfect, from the physicality of the show to the pacing of his delivery. At the same time, the whole thing wasn’t one long stand up routine. There was plenty of space left for the stories to breath and for audience members to feel something genuine in response to the difficult moments. While the show will obviously appeal most to people who have an understanding of evangelical christianity, the stories touch on a human element that would be relatable to anyone who has suffered through loss or simply found themself asking “why?”
What I didn't like
Overall, I felt it was a wonderful show. I think the end, while impactful and hopeful, could have been structured slightly differently to cleanly highlight the message of the play and wrap it all up. For example, by the end, I had forgotten we were hearing this story from Dan’s cabin in the woods – but that could just as easily be on me for getting too sucked into the story!
My overall impression
An incredible performance full of laughter and touching moments. The subject matter is sure to be thought-provoking long after the curtains close while also leaving viewers satisfied and hopeful.
